VOCAL Ottawa: Voices of Canadians about Lyme disease

Join this Canada-wide initiative on Saturday June 3rd at Parliament Hill (and in other capital cities across Canada) from 1-4 pm.

OUR GOAL: To raise awareness about this EVER growing silent epidemic to the general public, and to unite Canadians across Canada who are suffering from Lyme disease!

HOW CAN YOU HELP: Please continue to share this information, and invite your family and friends to join this event.

VOCAL (Voices of Canadians about Lyme disease) will be hosting events to raise awareness of Lyme disease including galas, walks, and demonstrations. We will be hosting an event on Parliament Hill; the seat of our federal government, and are inviting musical performers as well speakers, including celebrity advocates, doctors and researchers! Our goal is to bring more recognition to the general public as to the risks and severity of Lyme disease, and to the plight of those living with Lyme disease.

Note: that we are a completely grass roots organizing committee comprised of people living with Lyme Disease committed to bringing more awareness and action to this worldwide silent epidemic. We have several movements underway in Canada that are attempting to change this.
We have extended invitations to various people including journalists, Naturopathic Doctors, Researchers, celebrities living with Lyme Disease, Canadains living with Lyme Disease, authors, politicians, etc.

For more information please email vocalottawa@gmail.com

Sponsorship Information:
Sponsorship Opportunities for VOCAL Ottawa: Voices of Canadians about Lyme Disease
In Ottawa on Saturday June 3rd, 2017 from 1 to 4 pm.

Thank you for your interest in sponsorship opportunities for VOCAL Ottawa 2017.

Lyme disease is the fastest-growing vector borne disease in Canada. Its numbers are vastly under-reported and patients who go undiagnosed and untreated can be stricken with debilitating symptoms for years afterward. On Saturday June 3, 2017 from 1 to 4 pm., in cities across Canada, VOCAL will be hosting events to raise awareness of Lyme disease, including galas, walks and demonstrations.

In Ottawa, the nation’s capital, VOCAL Ottawa plans to make an especially big splash. We will be hosting an event on Parliament Hill, and are inviting musical performers, as well speakers, including celebrity advocates, persons living with Lyme Disease, doctors, politicians and researchers. The goal of this event is to raise awareness about this potentially debilitating but little-understood illness, and unite Canadians across the country who are suffering from it.

By sponsoring our event, you will have the opportunity to show solidarity with Canadians affected by the disease, particularly those living in the National Capital Region. Funds raised will be used to cover the numerous costs associated with orchestrating this event such as: travel and accommodation for guest speakers, costs of the rental of audio-visual and sound equipment, printing, and much more! By allying yourself with this growing cause, your company will be in a position to establish a long-standing relationship with a growing cause that will become increasingly important to Canadians in the coming years and decades.

We really have been overwhelmed with all the interest and great questions! Approximately 60% of those that stopped by have been bitten by ticks and the same # know someone with Lyme...and one man stopped by just now to tell me that 56-% of ticks collected along the Carp ridge have tested positive for Lyme!

Truly incredible effort to spread awareness and to let people know that Ottawa has a very active support system for fellow Lyme sufferers. Also such an important opportunity to ensure that outdoorsy people will take the necessary precautions. I have never been very fond of camping, hiking etc but for those that are this disease would be devastating as they would lose the ability to do any of it. Way to go Lesley, Jonathan, Kerri-Lee and Lisa :)

I don't think I can make it but please put a pair of shoes down for me. I had to re-learn how to walk again because of Lyme. I live in Saskatchewan and I have just finished a collection of 50 fibre art pieces portraying my journey with Lyme. The première showing of “50 yarns of Lyme – The Lyme Dis-Ease Series” will be held April 8th in Moosomin Saskatchewan. The purpose is to bring awareness to Lyme and to the value of art in the healing process. This piece “A Shadow of My Former Self” which hangs from a 5” hangman frame represents the depth of destruction Lyme leaves on its victims. All pieces in the collection have a story or ‘yarn’ that is Lyme related. Creating these pieces was part of my recovery and by showing them now I hope to raise awareness of Lyme. There is no charge for admission and it is open to all to attend. Thank you Susan Jaenen-Griffin

Im from Sainte-agathe-des-monts. I have been ill for 9 years now. Only found out 3 years ago. Unable to work since 5 years. 2 doctors declared me disabled and i have been refused 2x to get disability benefits. If it was not from my parents and my partner charity, i would have died in the street. I'm lucky to have help but unfortunatly not everybody has this chance. Its unacceptable how we get treated. Worse than dogs. Things have to change!

#VOCALOttawa would like to pay tribute to those with Lyme Disease that are unable to attend our event either due to poor health, lack of finances or because Lyme has taken their life...the use of shoes to symbolize those missing has been used in history to honour those lost to the Holocaust, different wars, drug use, etc. We will be setting up a monument of sorts with attached notes dedicated to individuals. If this applies to you, or someone you know, please PM us and we will be sure to add them. Join us Saturday June 3, 1-4 pm, Parliament Hill.

I'd like to hear Dr. Quach if she or a loved one had Lyme. Why these folks hide behind this fallacy of needing evidence based testing is a mystery to me. There was no 'evidence' when my daughter was diagnosed and treated for psoriatic arthritis for 8 years. Why was that okay? My friend's MS has no evidence. Such negligence is shameful.

Imagine...she was my son's doctor 😒. He tested positive for Bartonnella anti-bodies but she said that was just showing contact with it, not meaning you are still fighting it😕, then i ask how can she explain a week of fever (combine with all the others symptom that you know: such as gastric damage proven by endoscopy, sweling of the joints, humungus headaches, brain fog, memory lost and i past...). Had no picture of the bite to show her...

Antibiotic ALWAYS.... This is a disease you don't wish on your worst enemy and yet as more are diagnosed and educated on Lyme Disease ...brings a new hope for "all" of us who have been suffering, who have been told "it's all in your head", or "your just looking for attention." I don't know one person who would choose to be bedridden everyday for year after year - after year! Great interview ladies! Thank you for bringing awareness. To my friends and family.... ALWAYS always get an antibiotic if you have been bitten by a tick no matter who removed it. I know of a few who did not and a year later symptoms presented - hence chronic Lyme Disease for life.

VOCAL Ottawa 2017 is excited to introduce another addition to our exciting line up, Lori Dennis! "One of the most poignant lessons in our medical odyssey that I call LYME MADNESS is that NO ONE, and I do mean no one, should ever try to get between a mother bear and her cub." LORI Dennis Join us Saturday June 3rd, 1-4 pm to listen to and meet Lori Dennis, author of Lyme Madness: Rescuing My Son Down The Rabbit Hole of Chronic Lyme Disease! Please join our event and help spread the word, "like" and/or "share" this post! #VOCALOttawa Ever since her adult son fell ill in the fall of 2012, her only focus has been to help him get well. Little did she know at the start of this medical odyssey just how deep and unending this rabbit hole would be. While helping her son navigate his medical journey from “no answers” to continued recovery, she was determined to write this book to help others navigate this long and arduous path from illness to wellness—the overwhelming and complicated trek that comes with having chronic Lyme disease. She was also determined to provide a platform for other Lyme sufferers to have their voices heard in an effort to end the madness. A madness where millions are suffering around the globe while mainstream medicine continues to turn its back on the sick and infirm.
