Pix4Dmapper is the industry standard photogrammetry software used by UAS professionals. Aerial Education's (EDU) "Pix4Dmapper Fundamentals" will introduce students to Pix4Dmapper workflows and best practices. Students will learn the theory behind acquiring RGB photos and collecting ground control points. The course will lead students through hands-on A-to-Z exercises for generating, organizing, analyzing, and sharing 2D and 3D mapping deliverables. Deliverables may be used in a number of professional applications including land surveying, mining, agriculture, environmental consulting, and more.

Course Learning Objectives
• Understand the best practices for how to acquire aerial images from UAS for photogrammetry processing
• Comprehend the correct procedures for collecting ground control points and checkpoints
• Practice producing and manipulating high-accuracy 2D and 3D deliverables, including 3D point clouds, contours, and orthomosiacs
• Learn how to share your deliverables with colleagues and clients

• Creating a Pix4Dmapper project from scratch
• Establish a project boundary polygon
• Navigate through the rayCloud interface
• Tie the imagery to the control points
• Verify project accuracy using checkpoints
• Generate the dense point cloud
• Classify and edit the dense point cloud
• Generate digital surface and digital terrain models
• Generate 3D contour lines
• Generate the orthomosaic
• Edit the orthomosaic
• Make 2D and 3D measurements
• Create video animations of the 3D models
• Copy and organize the deliverables
About Aerial EDU & the Instructor
Aerial EDU is a training and consulting firm founded in 2017 in Northern California. They specialize in Pix4D integration for firms who are developing in-house UAS programs. Aerial EDU helps create standard operating procedures for reliable and repeatable UAS operations. Aerial EDU creates custom agendas to meet specific client needs in a private training environment.
Jeffrey Miller is the Founder and Principal Instructor at Aerial EDU. Jeffrey's recent experience includes 3 years as the Senior Technical Trainer for Pix4D. This experience provided him the opportunity to travel North America and help dozens of clients with varying needs. Jeffrey also works as a Geography Professor at two local community colleges. His proudest achievement is helping his school create multiple UAS courses and an accredited UAS certificate.
Jeffrey has been in the geospatial industry since 2008. He has wide-ranging experience in photogrammetry, geographic information systems (GIS), computer cartography, remote sensing, and LiDAR. Jeff’s interest in UAS began in 2013 when he started doing research for his master’s thesis. His blog, iphonedroneimagery.com chronicles that research. Jeffrey lives in Richmond, California with his wife, son, and two cats. He enjoys working in his garden, attending local sporting events, and taking walks with his family.
Q: Do I need previous experience with either Pix4Dmapper and/or UAS?
A: No previous experience is necessary. As titled, this course will cover the fundamentals, meaning it is applicable for beginners. Those with prior experience will nevertheless find value in the tips, tricks, and best practices presented.
Q: Do I need to purchase Pix4Dmapper
A: No. There is a free trial of Pix4Dmapper available for everyone.The instructor will use to guide you through the trial process.

Q: What do I need to bring?
A: Please ensure that you bring a laptop AND external mouse for use during the practical exercises. Neither the organizer or the instructor will be supplying computer equipment. It is recommended that your laptop be a PC, NOT a MAC. Specification recommendations are 16gb of RAM, an i7 processor, and a 3D GPU. These are only recommendations and not mandatory.
Q: Will we be flying drones in the field?
A: No. This course is 100% classroom based. DO NOT FLY YOUR DRONE AT THE EVENT SPACE.
Q: Will the event be catered?
A: Yes, the event will be catered with coffee and lunch provided. Light snacks will be included as well.
