Pipedown! Presents The Desert Island Big Band wsg Kat Steeves & Plaintree
Pipedown! Presents provides an accessible venue for emerging artists to perform indie and/or rock music to audiences with similar tastes.
The Desert Island Big Band is a lesson in vulnerability. Coming from a rock n roll background, Stefan Jurewicz has always expressed himself from behind a wall of screaming guitars and biting sarcasm. The idea of standing alone on stage singing deeply personal material was something best left to others. But over time this increasingly led to a feeling of inadequacy and disingenuousness, with only himself left to blame. So The Desert Island Big Band became a promise: no more holding back. Lean into discomfort. Say what you mean.
Born in Ottawa, Canada, Jurewicz has played in groups such as Onionface, All Day Breakfast, and Siberian Breaks, to name a few. He has toured all across Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes on multiple occasions over the majority of his musical career. With an unparalleled love for the road, The Desert Island Big Band has been a touring act since it’s inception, to date never having performed in it’s hometown.
In November of 2019, the Desert Island Big Band released One (Isn’t That What You Want?), a short 1:45 of layered allegories to the fallacy of individuality. It was mixed and mastered by Jason Jaknunas Of Metropolitan Studios, and recorded by Jurewicz himself. Stefan is a full-time audio engineer working out of Poole House Studios in Ottawa, and because of this the Desert Island Big Band already has a growing back catalog of material ready to be released in 2020.
