“Jahaji Family” is a 2 hour long Docu-drama set in India & Trinidad during the period from 1850 to 1889.
While following the journey of an indentured Muslim labourer from India to Trinidad and his interactions with several others, the movie recreates important events in the history of both countries during that period.
Jahaji Family takes an incisive look into the norms & practices of the early Indian immigrants to Trinidad and examines the development of East Indian family and community life through religious practices, arranged marriages, economic struggles, etc.
The movie is based on real characters and real historical events.
"Jahaji Family" was filmed in Trinidad, Canada, the US, and India with a cast of over 300 and is based on research by genealogist Shamshu Deen.
“Jahaji Family” was written, produced, directed and edited by Kamalo Deen whose previous films in Trinidad & Tobago were “Bacchanal Time” and “The Panman”.
