OUR DEMANDS

1) The Canadian government must make an immediate public condemnation of the executive order by President Trump that bans Muslim visa-holders from seven countries and also bans all refugees from entering the US.

2) Canada must immediately open the Canada-USA border.

This includes revocation of the Safe Third Country Agreement which bars most refugee claimants entering from the United States over land to claim asylum in Canada. The Designated Country of Origin list, which makes it almost impossible for US citizens and citizens of forty other countries to claim asylum in Canada, must be eliminated.

3) Canada must end racist, anti-refugee, anti-Black, Islamophobic exclusion of migrants and refugees within this colonial border.

This includes ending the system of indefinite immigration detention. The federal government must create a regularization program so that all undocumented residents can live here with their families rather than fear mass deportation. Migrant workers in Canada must also be given permanent status and open work permits. We want real, not symbolic, Sanctuaries that guarantee access to services and refuse collaboration with Canadian and American border agents.

4) Canada must rescind all federal legislation that attacks racialized Black and Brown Muslims and refugees, including the Zero Tolerance for Barbaric Cultural Practices Act as well as anti-terror legislation such as Security Certificates and Bill C51.

~ CALL OUT to ALLIES: Last week, the hateful protestors tried to intimidate and harass. This Friday, we shall send a message of love and solidarity. We also want to remind those affected by hate that we will always be vigilant. What can you do on Friday? Join us at Masjid Toronto, 168 Dundas St W (btw Bay and University) between 11 AM - 2:30 PM. Jeewan Chanicka and Sid Lacombe will be supporting each one of you with our action tomorrow. Please inform Jeewan how long you can be at the action. We need people who can be there for the entire duration of time, however keeping in mind, it may be too long for some of us, please kindly respond and state the time you can be at the action on Friday: 11-12 pm; 12-1 pm, 1-2 pm and/or 2- 2:45 pm. * We will provide some signs and markers for people to make signs of hope, compassion, love and justice. * A small diverse group will be asked stand on the same side of the mosque entrance, while the majority of us will stand on the other side to demonstrate solidarity. * We are also asking allies to demonstrate their support through notes of hope and support. We will post the notes to cover the outside of the Mosque windows – with the permission of the Mosque to leave a visible display of support. We will also provide tape. * We might have hateful protestors show up. Because we have been invited to stand in solidarity with those that choose to pray, we must be respectful by being mindful of our language and behaviour. Even more so if those that are committed to antagonize us show up on Friday. + On Saturday 25th of February, the mosque will be open for an Open House. Everyone is invited to attend. If you can help with security on that day, please do let us know.

Thank you for your ideas, time and commitment to ending Islamophobia and White Supremacy by engaging with other people of conscious who are committed to standing up against hate and promoting love. #WeWillWin #NoIslamophobia #EndWhiteSupremacy ~ Important: Strength in Numbers: At our last rally, 14,000 of you chose to act by joining us at the day of action against White supremacy and Islamophobia. Over the past week, we have been organizing and planning for the next steps. Next Steps: What can you do? + Invite your friends and family to join our group, so that we are 50,000 + strong. Please spend 10 minutes, inviting 10 of your friends who are committed to ending hate and promoting love. If all 6000 of us commit to just that action alone, we will have 60,000+ of us working together to combat hate. If 43,000 white supremacists can organize through a facebook group secretly in Quebec. We can find 50,000 folks that will organize publicly on our coalition group. Please share and most importantly invite and add your friends. Finally, the news coverage has shifted from our demands, i hope your resolve has not changed too. Let us not wait for another tragedy to affect our community for us to come together to organize. Let us organize now because lives are at stake and we have the privilege to be able to speak if not organize. On January 29th, we lost seven members of our human family to hate. Let us continue to be vigilant and do whatever it takes to prevent another tragedy from happening. Our group will create a forum for: + A national conversation about the rise of white supremacy and Islamophobia. + Promote educational opportunities on how to be an ally. + Track incidents of hate and share resources on how best to report and combat the impact of hate. Please add your friends and share the Link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1792848744374213/ Please share and invite your friends. Is there a recording/transcript of the "we must become the enemy" speech? I could only hear bits of it but it resonated with me. Also I can't remember the name of the man who gave it but I would love to follow a page if he has one.

Please urge your MP to support Motion 103 to help end systemic racism and discrimination in Canada, including Islamophobia. Organized and well-funded groups are flooding MPs with emails against the Motion. Use the quick tool at http://endhatred.ca to message your MP. Please pass on the link to your family and friends ASAP. Thank you!

I have an idea that I think might be helpful to the cause, but I'm not sure how to make it happen. My thought: what if we provided leadership teams at mosques (and other targets) with a sort of micro-Amber Alert system. We would have allies show up in advance in person at the mosque to register (with ID) to keep the distribution list clean. Then, when a threat showed up, an email/SMS blast would go out, and anyone from the list who's in the area could show up to counteract, witness, and support. Does this sound viable? Any ideas about how to make this a reality?

~ Friends, I have an important update to share with all of you. Please read and respond at your earliest convenience. Earlier today a group of hateful protestors visited a place of worship to intimidate and insult Muslims who came to pray the Friday noon prayer known as Jumaa, a mandatory prayer for Muslims. The group was joined by White supremacist bigots who held hateful signs. Their hateful action occurred earlier today, less than three weeks before the horrific tragedy in Quebec City that occurred on Sunday, January 29th 2017. Let's recap the incidents over the past three weeks, thanks to Ibrahim Hindy for putting it together: - A white supremacist shoots many people in a Quebec City Mosque, kills 6. - White supremacists cheer their deaths on closed facebook groups. - Liberals put forward M-103, a motion to condemn Islamophobia. Supported by the NDP caucus. - Many Conservatives MP's reject the motion saying they don't know what Islamophobia is and are afraid it will mean condemning criticisms of Islam. - Conservative leadership candidates Chris Alexander and Kellie Leitch attend a Rebel Media rally, after Rebel Media suggests that the Quebec Mosque massacre was fake. Link: https://youtu.be/PLw3Y0fV1Ao - Conservative leadership candidate Chris Alexander hears someone chanting "Ban Islam" during rally and laughs, saying "I can't be with you on that journey". - White supremacists show up at a Toronto Mosque shouting and carrying banners saying "Ban Islam" and "Muslims are terrorists". - A call out from ordinary people just like you was made and within hours a group of wonderful human beings organized a solidarity action in front of the Mosque to promote love and reject hate. http://ryersonian.ca/breaking-protest-outside-muslim-association-of-canada-masjid-toronto Is the Conservative Party of Canada - Parti conservateur du Canada still confused about what #Islamophobia is? ~ Many of you have made the request that the coalition and allies call for a follow up MASSIVE support rally for Friday prayers at the same location next week. If you support the call. Please respond to the opinion poll that we have set up to ask you whether you will attend a solidarity action on Friday, February 24th at noon at Masjid Toronto - the sight of the hateful protest earlier today. Wow! What jackasses. I can't really tell what they're protesting from the signs. Does anyone know what their actual mandate is? Or is this just general, disorganized hate?

When all MP Iqra Khalid wants to do is pass a motion in parliament that condemns Islamophobia, some people might see this as a slam dunk. Instead, there are Conservatives who are complicating things like proposing a motion that includes mentioning Christians, Jews, and maybe others. The Cons also rant on about Liberals using Islamophobia as a political football. I agree with condemning hate against any religion, but Khalid's motion is non-binding. So why all this fuss over her motion ? VOTE FOR THE DAMN THING and show you understand the seriousness of Islamophobia. Talk about multi-religious hatred another time.

My friend says there were 25-30 people and they lasted 30 minutes so it all ended already just in case people were heading over. It is my understanding that they have dispersed and hopefully got no attention from media.
