Mosaic Vase Series
Join us to create your own Mosaic vase or candle holder from stained glass!
Mosaic art might be one of the oldest art forms we still practice. The earliest evidence of mosaics can be found in Mesopotamia in the 3rd Millennium BC! ‘Mosaics’ refers to art or images made from assembling small pieces of glass or stone or other nature-based materials (called ‘tessera’). You might think of mosaics as something for the floor of a famous old building, or the backsplash in a friend’s kitchen after a high-priced bespoke remodel. But mosaic art is something you can practice on a smaller scale, too.
In this workshop you will create a personalized glass mosaic on a vase or candle-holder. You will learn the basics of mosaicking with stained glass on a vertical surface. You will have the opportunity to practice cutting glass or use pre-cut glass to produce your design. All materials will be provided but bring your design ideas! A selection of vases will be available for you to choose from.
No experience is required for this workshop. Bring your creativity for a few hours of mosaic fun!
We will be hosting 3 sessions to work on this project. It is recommended that you attend atleast two to create the framework for your vase and potentially finish it. A 3rd session will help you apply the finishing touches and grouting to the vase IN class.
$60 for 2 sessions: Take home grout and instructions at the end of the second session to complete at home.
$70 for 3 sessions: Depending on your progess, you may complete your mosaic and take home the grout, or grout your finished mosaic in the 3rd session.
Accessibility: Easy. The workshop is on the main level. There is a washroom on the main level.
