New Monuments: Public Art Tour with Coco Guzman
New Monuments for New Cities:
Public Art Tour with Coco Guzman
May 28, 6-7pm
An ongoing series of onsite tours exploring selected works in the public art exhibition, New Monuments for New Cities.
Tours will be held Tuesdays (6-7pm) from May 14 to August 20. Each tour will be led by a different Torontonian – artists, designers, planners, community members and active urbanists – who will reflect on the artworks, The Bentway’s layered histories and potential futures, as well as the city itself. The tour leaders will lead participants throughout The Bentway and interpret the site and works based on their own expertise and interests.
The May 28th tour will be conducted by New Monuments for New Cities artist Coco Guzman. Coco is a Toronto-based visual artist whose work addresses themes of gender and sexuality, war and protest, the invisibility of migrants and refugees, and the dynamics of exclusion and normalization. Coco has exhibited worldwide, including at Colombia University, Chicago; The Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; Montreal Arts Interculturels, Montreal; and El Porvenir de la Revuelta, Madrid.
