Lesley Telford / Inverso Productions
“[Telford] has such a profound way of tapping into very deep recesses of our emotional and intellectual landscapes, Her physicality is very wonderful and very today. I think she’s a very exciting choreographer to watch as we go forward in this next generation of choreographers.” - Emily Molnar, Ballet BC, Vancouver Courier
Lesley Telford will be developing a new work with collaborators Stephanie Cyr and Eden Solomon.
Lesley Telford is a Vancouver-based choreographer who has returned to her hometown after a career in Europe spanning 20 years. Lesley has refined a choreographic approach that combines impulse-based physicality and technical rigour with sensitivity to the minute relationships between performers themselves and between performers and their environment. She creates by building situations that can propel dancers into something they didn’t predict, exploring the body’s instinctive response systems. She often works with text and collaborates frequently with Barbara Adler.
Lesley is the artistic director of Inverso Productions, a platform for interdisciplinary performance, which has toured to Spain, the Netherlands and Canada. She also leads the Performance Research Project for emerging artists at Arts Umbrella. As a dancer, she worked with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Compañia Nacional de Danza and most recently, Netherlands Dans Theater 1. Lesley has choreographed for dance companies throughout Europe and North America, including Netherlands Dans Theater 1, Ballet BC, Hubbard Street Dance Company 2, and Compañia Nacional de Danza, among others. Lesley also has a Master of Cultural Production from the University of Salzburg. Her company, Inverso Productions, is currently developing Spooky Action, supported by the Canada Council, the BC Arts Council and a residency at The Dance Centre.
