FIVE DAY COURSES | $325 + HST

In this class, participants will create a colourful heirloom piece of art, consisting of a custom-designed hand-hooked chair mat. They will be taught the basics of rug hooking - how to transfer a pattern to backing, how to cut fabric strips, types of hooking and tools needed, and how to finish the hooked piece. Each participant will receive a kit containing a pattern, background material, transfer fabric, transfer pen, hook, and dyed wool flannel fabric swatches, dyed yarn, and cording and twill tape for finishing.

MATERIAL COST: $80 to be paid to the instructor on the day of the workshop.

Instructor - Caroline Simpson

Caroline Simpson is a long-time Fredericton resident, originally from Ottawa. A fibre artist, she works mostly in traditional rug hooking, but also creates artwork using embroidery and beading; she explores ways to combine these various elements in a cohesive artwork that embodies creativity, beauty, practicality, and an inherent concern for the environment through upcycling. She strives to convey a sense of realism in her hooked designs that allows a moment in time to persist. Her rugs have been exhibited in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, and one will be featured in this year's "Celebration 30" book, published by Rug Hooking Magazine. This rug will be exhibited at Sauder Village, Ohio in August 2020. She is an associate member of the Teachers' Branch of the Nova Scotia Rug Hooking Guild.
