In the Footsteps of Our Immigrants (World Refugee Day)

We would like to invite you to a live interactive theatre performance play honoring World Refugee Day, on June 20th, at City Hall in partnership with the Victoria Immigrant & Refugee Centre Society and the Applied Theatre Department at the University of Victoria.
This interactive play will explore newcomers, immigrants and refugees’ narratives of relocation, resilience, settlement, and integration. The play was created by actors and youth from various ethnic and culturally diverse backgrounds who will share their stories of their lived and living experiences in the worlds of immigration, migration and settlement.

Stage Manager: Megan Husanini-Chandler (Guyanese/Canadian)
Ensemble: Afolabi Taiwo Okunola, Annie Konstantinova (Israeli), Jasmine Li (Chinese American), Megan Husanini-Chandler, Olivia Wheeler (Canadian), Samer Khateb (Syrian), Thiptawan Uchai, Tianxu Zhao (Chinese), and Victoria Stark (Eastern European Canadian)
We hope to see you there at this specially created play for the World Refugee Day and to participate in supporting community arts and cultural events in Victoria!

Congratulations to all those involved in this performance. It was entertaining, but also so very informative and moving to hear of experiences of new Canadians.

Come and join us the first event: Tomorrow, Saturday, June 17, 11:00 am-2:00 pm Central Branch Courtyard, GVPL, 735 Broughton Street: Gather for interactive activities that create community connections. Event opens with a blessing from Elder Greg Sam and a welcome from City of Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps. Free and everyone welcome.
