Hatha/General Yoga By Nishimura (Sarah) Yoshimi
WHAT IS Hatha/General Yoga?
Hatha Yoga is also broken down as ‘ha’ meaning ‘sun’ and ‘tha’ meaning ‘moon’. This refers to the balance of the masculine – sun, hot, active – and the feminine – moon, cool, receptive – within all of us. Hatha yoga is a path toward creating balance and uniting opposites. In our physical bodies we develop a balance of strength and flexibility – something that is much needed with our current day lifestyles. We also learn to balance our effort and surrender in each pose.
Hatha Yoga yoga is a powerful tool for self-transformation. It asks us to bring our attention to our breath, which helps us to still the fluctuations of the mind, and be more present in the unfolding of each moment.
ORIGIN OF HATHA
The Sanskrit word "Hatha" literally means "Sun-Moon" ("Ha=Sun", "Tha-Moon") symbolizing balance and opposing parts of the physical body - ie. front, back, left, right, top, bottom.

Words from the Instructor: Nishimura (Sarah) Yoshimi
I am a Certified Yoga Instructor of Semperviva Yoga Centre. I have been teaching Yoga since 2010 until present.
I bring my experience and enthusiasm for Hatha and Power yoga to focus on students’ needs and abilities. My style is based on Hatha yoga with elements of Astanga Yoga and Vinyasa Flow Yoga. I combine these differing branches to offer what I believe is a unique style which can be tailored to individuals and groups of varying ability and experience. I think this adds many benefits and that my personal enthusiasm and love for yoga come through in my classes.
My programs focus on strengthening core muscles, improving posture and developing mental and physical balance. I also utilise breathing techniques as a crucial element of holistic yoga practice.
Being a yoga teacher is really fantastic. I enjoy every moment. Sharing my knowledge is my greatest pleasure in life!
