Families Forward - Strategies for Caregivers w/ Children Under & Over 18
Deb Royer is a parent of an adult son with disability, Special Needs Education professor, behaviour consultant, board member of Skills Society and CNIB, and former PDD employee. During the town hall, caregivers expressed wanting resources and strategies to help their son or daughter with an inclusive community life. However, to achieve that some caregivers expressed wanting strategies within the home environment. The Families Forward session in March is a response to this request, come prepared with barriers and hurdles you face as caregivers to ask during Q & A. In this session, Deb will talk about caregiver expectations, foundations for creating attitudinal and behavioural changes, strategies for value based incentives, harnessing the strengths of your loved ones and pathways to actively and meaningfully engage you loved ones.

Since 2019, Gateway Association invites a Witness to all Families Forward sessions; Witnesses are prominent Albertans in positions of power. Witnesses hear about topics that are pertinent to caregivers and the related barriers, potential solutions and systemic issues. Non-identifying feedback will be taken away by Witnesses to their tables of influence thus contributing to a multi-level systemic problem-solving mechanism.
Our Witness for March is MLA David Shepperd.
