Ensemble Made in Canada
VCM Presents
Ensemble Made In Canada (EMIC)
Rapidly gaining recognition as Canada’s premier piano quartet, Ensemble Made In Canada is leading the next generation of classical musicians. The members of the group, Angela Park (piano), Elissa Lee (violin), Sharon Wei (viola), and Rachel Mercer (cello) have been forging outstanding individual careers and bring together a wealth of experience teaching and performing at prestigious festivals across Canada and the United States. They were awarded the 2006 CBC Galaxie Stars Award from the Banff Centre for the Arts, and featured as “Women to Watch” by Chatelaine Magazine.
Throughout 2018-2020, Ensemble Made in Canada is on a national concert tour celebrating the diversity and richness of Canada through the
Mosaïque Project
. The Project consists of three components:
• A newly commissioned suite of piano quartets by 14 Canadian composers, each inspired by a particular region of Canada
• A national concert tour comprised in all 10 Canadian provinces and 3 territories
• A specially designed website that showcases audience generated artwork inspired by the musical commission
It involves artists from across Canada including performers, composers, visual artists, and web designers in order to create an evolving artistic work that can be experienced by audiences, participants and online visitors throughout our country and internationally.
Trey Lee
The VCM Presents performance will offer a new “mosaïque” program, representing the origins of Canadians through works by Mahler (Bohemia), Bridge (UK), Turina (Spain), Fauré (France), and also a piece from the Mosaique Project, by BC composer Ana Sokoloviۛć (Canada-BC). Cellist
Trey Lee
will replace Rachel Mercer at our VCM Presents concert.
The group is grateful for support from FACTOR, the Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council. EMIC has been Ensemble-in-Residence at Western University since 2014.
General Admission $24.68 to $26.15 (including tax & service charges)
Free for 18 years of age and under (free tickets for 18 and under are available only at the VCM’s Front Desk and at the door before the concert)
The Victoria Conservatory of Music is grateful for funding support for the Ensemble Made In Canada concert from the Gail O’Riordan Fund for Music and Performing Arts through the Victoria Foundation. For more information about the fund,
