Beyond the Blocks: Exploring Mathematical & Literacy Thinking
Interested in learning how blocks might support literacy and mathematical thinking? Join us as we uncover the possibilities of block play!
This session will explore the developmental stages of block play. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how block play can support literacy and mathematical behaviours. Through hands on exploration, we will consider how to use open-ended materials as a tool to inspire critical thinking and offer intentional and differentiated learning opportunities. Registration includes a free Tinker Treasure Bag filled with resources and a certificate of participation.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Humber College North Campus is located in the northwest part of Toronto, near the intersection of Finch Ave West and Hwy 27. If travelling by TTC the 927 Highway 27 Express from Kipling Station, 186 Wilson Rocket from York Mills Station and 36 Finch West from Finch Station will provide travellers with access to the campus. Visitor Parking is available in Lot #10, Lot #8, Lot #6 & the Parking Garage.
What can I bring into the event?
Participants are encouraged to bring their own items to document their learning during the "playshop" session e.g. iPad, notebook, etc. Please note that light snacks will be offered during the sessions however, if a participant is signed up for a full day of sessions at a venue, they will be responsible for their own lunch. While food is permitted, there is no kitchen available for warming up and/or preparing meals.
