We present an afternoon of Hong Kong style Mahjong without the gambling! Hosted at Frog Hollow Neighbourhood House, it is a 3 hours event open to all ages. Interested parties are welcome to drop by anytime between 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm. The goals are to allow participants to learn more about Chinese culture and to enhance intergenerational relationships between youths and older generations.
There will be complimentary Chinese pastries and tea!
Multiple tables will be set up, four participants will be seated per table based on skill level, split into beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. After several rounds, the members of each skill level will rotate and find new partners to play against each other. This will maximize the number of people each participant can interact with. For the participants who are new to the game, instructions will be given beforehand and assistance will be provided during the game at the beginner's table if necessary.
We cordially invite everyone to join this fun, enjoyable and free event! Our vision is to provide this Mahjong experience to help foster positive intergenerational relationships between youths and older generations. Parents and grandparents may feel inspired to share their knowledge and skills of playing Mahjong with their younger generation! This event will introduce youths to an intellectual and cultural activity, as many young people may have limited knowledge of this Chinese tradition. Ultimately, we wish to promote a sense of belonging in our community.
