Join us for this special edition of Nature in Transition or "NIT" where we will be exploring the two river’s queer ecologies of the meeting place, folklore, and some of their histories. NIT is a space where trans and non-binary nature meets the wondrous natural world around us. Brought to the 2River’s festival as part of an on-going series from ARCH, it focuses on cultivating emotional wellness, positive well-being, confidence, and connection through mindfulness-based nature hikes for 2SLGBTQ+ communities.

****************************************************

We will meet at the Eramosa River Park. From there we will have a brief check-in about the expectations, goals, and desires of the group, as well as additional resources available in the community and ways to get involved. Each walk/hike will focus on one key element of cultivating resiliency as queer and trans people, and this particular walk will center around the topic of queer ecologies of our two river system through a series of reflection prompts followed by quiet time along the trails. We will end with a group chat, check-out, and individuals are welcome to follow up with peers should they require additional support.

*Please note this is a FRAGRANCE-FREE EVENT. For the health and safety of facilitators and participants, it is important that everyone come fragrance-free to this workshop. For information on how and why to be fragrance-free, please read this article for more information. If you arrive wearing a fragrance, you will be asked to wash it off, and if that’s not possible, to maintain a comfortable distance as to not impact the participation of others, or another remedy that we decide on cooperatively. If you have questions, or if you are not sure you can be fragrance-free, please contact Jasper at education@archguelph.ca

While this walk is *not* a group therapy session nor should it be used in place of formal mental health support for coping with anxiety, oppression, or other barriers to well-being, this walk will focus on reflective writing prompts and facilitated discussion around common themes when it comes to trans and 2SLGBQ+ people navigating their own struggles, as it relates to their identities and their lives at large.

The session will be facilitated by a staff member from ARCH and a trained peer support worker who has been trained in motivational interviewing and peer support who both identify as trans individuals.  Referrals will be available for those who may need additional support through more formal networks.

Participants are reminded of the sensitive nature of this topic and to participate as much or as little as their mental health and capacity allows for on the day of the hike. Though we will have active listeners available during the session, if you require more support at any time consider reaching out to here247.ca or www.translifeline.org.
